Swapping our saved seeds in the community from local plants carry an innate, indigenous intelligence as our plants localise and adapt to the climate and soil composition of this place and over time become a native. This event in some ways is at the heart of an awakened community. When we learn the value of a localised or heirloom plant, then saving and sharing its seeds becomes a passion! The community broadens its base of localised plant diversity and we enrich each other through this free exchange.
We might be a few years from a well-cultivated, well-nurtured seed-swap event in Forest Row when we watch our crop with a careful eye through the growing season with the awareness and intention to save & swap the best of our seeds within the community. But we could be on our way to a time when the community is buzzing with growing and nurturing localised vegetables and plants and anticipates lively seed-swap days on the 1st weekend of February and March.
We will have a good start towards lively future seed-swaps with Demeter Seeds on sale this Saturday. Because these seeds are open-pollinated they will adapt to the locality and you can save seeds from them from generation to generation.
If you are bringing seeds to swap please make sure they are well labeled in secure envelops.
