• We listen to the weather forecast and if there is a chance that it will rain, we take an umbrella.
• If we think there is even a small chance our house will burn down, we take out insurance.
• If we think that our globalised long distance food delivery system has vulnerabilities in it, then we should also think about how to have a food store to act as a buffer in the case of disruption.
In 2008, as the world economy teetered on the brink of collapse, global food trade almost came to an abrupt halt. Global Trade operates with letters of credit which the buyer gets from their bank. But if the exporter loses confidence that the buyer's bank will exist, then the system collapses and trade rapidly dries up.
Local Government Agencies includes 'the economy' as a potential emergency risk factor but doesn't do much to prepare citizens.

The aim of this meeting is to form a group to develop an easy, affordable and practical food store for you and your family.
We already have a number of ideas - we invite you to join us at this meeting with your ideas and turn the ideas into a practical programme that can be replicated.
"if we wait for the governments, it'll be too little, too late • if we act as individuals, it'll be too little • but if we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time" Rob Hopkins
