Transition Forest Row

A community in transition to a low carbon, sustainable, resilient life.

Hello,

Just some minutes from the meeting we had tonight (1/12)

present:
Romily, Adrian, Popak, Nir

What is it the Education and Skills group want to do:
1. Working with schools- running workshops or after school clubs on climate change, peak oil, transition town or sustainability. Nir will contact John Marsh from Forest Row primary school who is keen on the subject and teaches year 5, to talk about some dates to come to the school.

2. Skills- there are several options on the skills front- finding out what skills are out there in the community, what skills are needed/in demand. the group will coordinate "The great reskilling program" producing quarterly programs on courses, talks and workshops on different skills; Sewing, textile and fashion, gardening, bicycle maintenance, wood, green wood working, beekeeping, business skills etc...

In the making- the skills market in Micheal hall is a good venue to give people a taster.

Venues available- village hall, community center, coleman's hatch village hall, Emerson college, Peredor
other ideas which came up were- setting tables and workshops in front of the village craft shop or future cycle.

Where from here? Nir will talk to the school. We need to think of how do we find the skills available out there and what is the demand.

I think that is it... Thanks for all the input and we will meet again in January

Hi all,

I'm new to this ning stuff excuse any guffs...
anyway I've put up the coppicing course/event on the ning and we are holding it here at windyridge.
I put it under 'Transition re-skilling' - coppicing workshop. I thought I'd give this a go as a generic courses title for starters to see if anyone liked it. Is the idea of the ning that I then email or share this course date with people or that anyone interested searches it out?

Good move Adrian,
You need to change the date to 2009....

Nir
Fantastic that I see in your minutes that you Nir will go and speak with John Marsh. I attended the FR Parish Council liaison group meeting last week for the Transition groups and John raised it himself that he was hoping that someone would come and speak to him from Transition and he thought they would but that no one had been in touch yet.... wonderful synchronicity. Hope it goes well.
