Transition Forest Row

A community in transition to a low carbon, sustainable, resilient life.

Five of us met last Monday at Angie Montagu’s house - and I am sorry for delay in contacting you with results of our meeting, as there was some clarification needed around future dates...

The outcome is that the next ‘meeting’ of this group will be a space for sharing with each other, and iwth others who are interested from the Transition Group, our hopes and fears around these times of transition and what it means for us. We will book a room in the Community Centre for a weekday evening (Charlene is looking into this) and ‘get started’ with supporting each other!

This first ‘sharing space’ will be facilitated along the lines of a ‘world cafe’ discussion (see below)– and I am happy to take the lead for this, with support from a couple of other group members. Date and more info follow soon. We hope to see you there – it will be an opportunity for sharing of your own ideas for supportive & inspiring initiatives for the H&S/C’ty Spirit group, as well as your personal feelings.

Meeting notes:
We discussed the aims of this group and concluded that we wished essentially to provide support and inspiration with our collective transition – at a heart level - to
a) Other Transition village members ; and
b) Wider Forest Row community.

This support and inspiration can happen in a variety of ways, including focus on listening & sharing; honouring our different spiritual paths; visioning for our future lives; bringing forward the personal qualities needed, such as courage, creativity; story; arts and play; dreaming our wildest dreams – to name but a few!!

We discussed a name and were divided between ‘Community Spirit’ and ‘Heart and Soul’ – so for the moment we agreed to merge the two and call the group: Heart&Soul / Community Spirit. We also talked of a ‘heading’ for our public meetings such as: “Community Spirit – supporting the heart and soul of the community”.

Activities:
Three concrete initiatives were brought to the group:
i) An interactive discussion ‘cafe’ for listening and sharing around our hopes and fears for transition, and what it means to us. This would use the ‘world cafe’ system of allowing people to listen & share in 3 or 4 different small group conversations during the time allowed. - Elizabeth
ii) Visioning our future –as transition village; and also in a wider context – Charlene.
iii) Honouring of our spiritual paths and coming together: inviting the different spiritual leaders locally to share their meditation practices with all as a larger group – Claudine.

And of course there were plenty of other ideas raised during the evening – and no doubt more among you who were not able to attend this time.

Looking forward to another meeting and sharing soon in the Community centre in early July.... date tbc.

With love to you all

Elizabeth
