"An impeccable and gorgeous piece of work... It shook me awake." ~ Joanna MacyIf you wanted to change an ancient culture in a generation, how would you do it? You would change the way it educates its children.Beautifully shot on location in the Buddhist culture of Ladakh in the northern Indian Himalayas, the film weaves the voices of Ladakhi people through a conversation between four carefully chosen original thinkers; anthropologist and ethnobotanist Wade Davis, a National Geographic…See More

"Great - what I liked about the Moorcar example is that it is working in a small rural community and is set up to spread to other similar areas. thanks for putting the spiel up! x"

Stand by for the return of rationing

The Sunday Times today has a 1/2 page article in the business section about a report last week from the all party parliamentary group on peak oil and gas.   They recommend tradable personal energy quotas and it contains phrases such as 'we are running into danger. Energy shortages will occur.  We do not know when but the event is undoubted and it is not far distant.'   The tone of the article is that it will be pretty hard to introduce such things.... but awareness raising and mainstream media…See More

About Me:
I live just north of Ashurst Wood near Hammerwood and have been involved with Transition Forest Row since Mike G held a 'Changing worlds' day way back in March 07. I was Wealden District Councillor for Forest Row 2004-2007 and am still very interested in politics, local democracy and what happens around here. This year I have joined the school Council at Michael Hall as an independent. I have 2 daughters and a husband Sean who is a naval barrister. In past years I have worked as a management consultant in change and network industries and as a primary school teacher.
A long time supporter of Tablehurst farm and small scale chicken keeper myself (very small, only 2 girls!), I am hoping to embark in Autumn 08 on a local food directory with Juliet in the Transition food group.
I am currently reading 'The last food of England' which I bought on a recent trip to the Weald and Downland Open Air museum - highly recommend it! Let me know if you would like to borrow it...

Natural Swimming Pond

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 21:48 0 Comments

Last year we finally got around to building a natural swimming pond -literally that, the water is cleaned by the plants within, wildlife is encouraged (except fish and birds - they have to enjoy the adjacent

fish pond!). As it was only completed last September, we have only swum in it the once, though the children did try last weekend but it was rather cold.... but it is just wonderful.

This week in the sunshine I counted 26 frogs/ toads in the bottom of the deeper swimming area… Continue

excellent - glad you like it. As I use it more I am liking it better.

I see it as a way that will do something that can reduce some emails while at the same time making information available to a wider audience.

There isn't a Festival 2008 site yet. We're probably going to put it all up on forestrow.org. We already have a long list of events, but the challenge is going to be putting together the schedule, and I doubt if that will be possible until remarkably close to the actual event, since there are always some significant late additions to the line up.

Anyway, the important thing is to have the weekend (and probably the whole week) in your diary.

Thank you Rowena. I have put 30 July in my diary (time?). I have not joined the energy google group yet. How do I do that?

Hi Rowena. Building on our conversation at the energy event on a vision building event in October, I'd like to invite you to meet this coming Monday at my house to kick off the conversation about it. Can you make it? Say an 8:00 for an 8:15 start. I hope to see you here.

I've just found this gentle but clever little film - A World without Jam.. made by the WI.... have you seen it? May be helpful in a visioning type event with others....? Something to show during the film festival?....worth watching to the end of part 2 ! ;-)

Glad to hear that the Permaculture weekend went well and that there will be a repeat.

I took the chat off as it takes up space on the front page and I didn't think it was being used but can easily add it again - which I will now for a trial. I'll send an email round to alert people and see if that helps.

No progress on the library idea beyond donation of the Handbook. That is one of the things we could do if we had some more funds - must organise the fundraising event.

Yes it is good,

I might be interested in going to a course but cannot think now about May, July or August...
I am happy to talk plants and go through the catalogue also Plants for a future is a good reference site though they don't sell plants but have an extensive database.
