my laptop uses 15 volts (8 amps) and i have had a better efficiency recently by changing over to an adjustable maplins 12volt to 15-24dc power adaptor. previously, (whilst in my van) was using a 12volt to 240 volt 1500watt inverter which actually uses(wastes) 2 amps while running. Makes a real difference when im naughty and have my laptop on for 4 hours . that means Laptop uses 8 amps an hour = 32 amps. factoring in the inverter thats 40 amps total.
May well be worth considering a 12 volt supply in the home for smaller items which allow another little energy saving!!
